A major driver of intervention programs in the Niger Delta is the need to create wealth, reduce youth unemployment, and foster a peaceful, conducive environment for various aspects of human activity to thrive. It is upon this backdrop that Accord for community development commenced Youth – skills training and empowerment programme (Y-STEP) as an intervention to enhance economic growth of communities and boost our nation’s economy.
The Skills Training and Empowerment Program is a Social Enterprise contribution to Youth Employment in Rivers State. It aims at supporting the technical Skill acquisition and Agri-vocational training of youths in Rivers State. It will increase the employability of youth through entrepreneurial skills development. This will in turn result in self-reliance, income security and peace promotion.
Accord a major player in Community development work in Niger Delta is known for youth empowerment and poverty alleviation schemes in partnership with Chevron commenced the selection of youths who will be beneficiaries of this scheme. The benefitting youth will be selected through a rigorous process to ensure that the objective of the program is achieved. One of the criteria of selection is demonstrable willingness to follow through.
A town hall session/ sensitization program was organized in Ogu/bolo and Onne community in Rivers state, Questionnaires were distributed to the youths, and it will be a tool for the pre-selection after which they will be interviewed before the final selection.
