The event took place at Accord for Development’s Hall at her office premises, a great number of women graced the event spanning from marriage counselors to women entrepreneurs that gave some valuable and laudable experiences and advises to the attendees based on the theme of the day “INVEST IN WOMEN: ACCELERATE PROCESS”. The focus was solely on “Gender Equality” which was anchored by Accord’s Gender Development department with the hash tag “#InspireInclusion

The discussion centered around the following points as shown below;

IWD holds immense significance as a point for gender equality and women’s rights. It serves as a platform to raise awareness about the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women worldwide.

Additionally, the day provides an opportunity to highlight the persistent challenges and barriers that women face, including gender-based discrimination, violence and unequal access to education and unemployment opportunities.

IWD provides a potent platform for bringing attention to the obstacles and injustices that women experience, including limited economic opportunities, gender-based violence and unequal access to healthcare and education.

This is an opportunity to take stock of our accomplishments and renew our commitment to finding solutions that advance gender equality and give women and girls more power.

How do we invest in Women?

Investing in women is key to accelerating progress towards gender equality and social inclusion in Nigeria. Here are some ways in which investment can make a significant impact:

1. Education: Investing in girls’ education can have a transformative effect on their lives and communities. This includes funding scholarships, building schools, providing resources for girls to stay in school, and ensuring access to quality education for all.

2. Economic empowerment: Investment in women’s entrepreneurship, access to finance, and skills training can help break the cycle of poverty and empower women to become active participants in the economy. This includes providing microfinance loans, mentorship programs, and business development support.

3. Healthcare: Investment in women’s health services, including reproductive healthcare, maternal healthcare, and access to essential medical services, can improve health outcomes for women and girls. This includes building healthcare facilities, training healthcare workers, and ensuring affordable and accessible healthcare services.

4. Leadership and political participation: Investment in programs that promote women’s leadership and political participation is crucial for achieving gender equality in decision-making processes. This includes supporting women’s political campaigns, providing leadership training programs, and building networks and platforms for women in leadership positions.

5. Addressing violence against women: Investment in programs that aim to prevent and respond to gender-based violence is crucial. This includes funding shelters and safe spaces for survivors of violence, providing support services such as counseling and legal aid, and raising awareness about the impact of violence against women.

The women also had a lot of heated discussions on the area of “Women Empowerment in Nigeria” as well as marital challenges and ways of sorting issues out as they arise and be at peace with their spouses. The women expressed their gratitude to the Accord’s team for bringing them together and shared valuable topics as well as practical experiences in the course of the event.
