The objective of the LSETF/USADF Employability programme is to on one hand equip beneficiaries with skills that prepares them to set up Entreprises in their chosen profession and to also prepare them for work-set skills that will afford them the opportunity to be absorbed into reputable organizations’. The framework of the project is to ensure that the 3 months intensive skills gotten will be augmented with 3 months of internship in firms where their skills can be further mastered. The training is practical oriented and classroom based learning to equip them with all necessary skills.
Across Nigeria and Lagos state in particular, employers complain of insufficient skills from prospective applicants and this makes the job seekers unattractive for employment. The vocational training and employability project helps to bridge the gap by arming the youthful individuals with the right training to help their quest for suitable employment and also to set up profitable businesses where they can eke a living.
The students were trained in the following areas such as Fashion (Creative Design), ICT and Business Support in the areas of Accounting & Book Keeping, Marketing and Customer Service. We have delivered the first batch and sent to organisations that employed them as interns, some of the students have further been absorbed by some of the organisations as their regular staff members and included them in their payroll as well as increasing their take home pays. The second batch is ongoing to make a total of 240 beneficiaries that Accord have trained and sent to other companies and organisations for their internship which is a way of reducing unemployment but upscale the skill-set of the individuals at a long run.
