The ambience of the environment was quite cozy and the beneficiaries of the 3rd edition of YESAP beaming with smiles even as they gathered at the Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) situated in Alesa-Eleme in Rivers State, Nigeria for their graduation ceremony.
The Youth Empowerment and Skills Acquisition Programme (YESAP) is an enterprise skills training programme targeted at youth between the ages of 18-35 years situated around Eleme and Okrika communities of Rivers State.
In this 3rd edition of the Programme, a total of 80 graduands were trained in diverse vocational skills ranging from Welding and Fabrication, Fashion Design, Information and Communication Technology (ICT), Interlocking/Block moulding, Hair Dressing, Agricultural Vocational and Catering.
In his address, the Managing Director of PHRC, Engr. Abba Bukar, noted that “skill acquisition and youth empowerment is no doubt a proven route to economic prosperity for any community”. Hence, he charged the successful graduates to strive to be worthy ambassadors of the YESAP programme.
The YESAP programme is part of the Corporate Social Responsibility plan of the Port Harcourt Refining Company for its host communities. Previous editions of the scheme have produced over 100 beneficiaries. Some of them have successfully carved a niche for themselves in business.
